CES is not only about the big ones, we also found a lot of small interesting things among the products of the thousands of exhibitors.
At Shiftcam, for example, we saw the world’s smallest SSD, which of course was made for smartphones, but with a design that allows you to use the data storage continuously connected to the phone. It works with both Android phones and iPhones, and of course, thanks to the USB-C connector, you can even use it with a notebook or desktop computer – in this case, however, you may need the special adapter, otherwise the device may block neighboring USB plugs.
Planck weighs only 10 grams and is really very small, but it is fast: it is capable of speeds of over 1 GB/s. And it’s not too fragile either: according to the IP65 standard, it’s dust- and water-resistant, as well as resistant to falling. The little thing will be available in 1TB and 2TB sizes for $189 and $299, respectively, expected in April, and before that there will be a Kickstarter campaign during which you can buy it at a 35% discount.
There was no shortage of novelties at SanDisk either, where one of the most interesting examples from the Creator series is the Phone SSD – which is primarily made for iPhones, as it is MagSafe compatible, meaning it can be attached to the back of the iPhone 15 and 16 models with a magnet. It comes with a short cable that won’t get in the way even when you’re holding the phone in your hand. Its capacity can be 1 or 2 TB, and you will certainly not have a problem with the speed, since the SSD is capable of a speed of over 1 GB/s. The gift also includes a 1-month Creative Cloud subscription!
Synology, known mainly for NAS, brought some new webcams to CES. The CS500B and CS500T are outdoor models with a 5MP sensor and 3K resolution. Both cameras communicate via a wired connection, and the recordings are recorded on their own data storage – i.e. they are models that can be used completely independently, and do not require a NAS to operate. Protection is provided by an IP67 housing, the 110-degree lens provides a wide viewing angle, and the night vision function can provide a range of up to 30 meters. The CS400 is an indoor version with WiFi communication, but with a lower resolution (4MP / 2K) image sensor. It has a lens with a viewing angle of 125 degrees, so you can see a wider area, but the night vision function only gives a usable image up to 10 meters. Synology plans to introduce the cameras in the first quarter, the prices are not yet known.
