Márton Fucsovics said goodbye in the second round of the qualifiers at the Australian Open tennis championship in Melbourne, thereby deciding that he will not be on the main draw of the Australian Open for the first time since 2017.

Australian Open, qualifier, 2nd round:
Henrique Rocha (Portuguese)-Márton Fucsovics (3.) 6:2, 7:6 (7-3)

On Tuesday, Fucsovics, 100th in the world ranking, said goodbye to the Spanish Oriol Roca Batalla, ranked 224th, 6:4, 6:4, and then the next day he faced the Portuguese Henrique Rocha (174th), for the first time in his career. The 20-year-old opponent made his first Grand Slam qualifier last year and picked up his first win in the opening round in Melbourne on Tuesday.

In the opening game of the battle on Wednesday, the 32-year-old Hungarian – who was in the eighth finals of the Australian Open in 2018 and 2020 – lost his serve twice, while not reaching a single break point, so after 34 minutes he was already a set down. In the continuation, Rocha parried the break point of the athlete from Nyíregyháza at 2:1, but after that, the serve was not in danger, so the second act ended in a shortened one, in which the rival was better throughout.

The match lasted 1 hour and 44 minutes, Fucsovics, who was a finalist at the Hungarian Championship in Balatonfüred in December, had 36 foul shots in the statistics, while Rochá only had 20.
