Marci Fucsovics lived through the Olympics and the fact that she was able to clash with the king of clay, Rafael Nadal, at Roland Garros, although there is a sense of absence in relation to that – otherwise excellent – match. There is no strength left for the doubles team, but the MOL team’s classic is still not worried about his performance in Paris.
For Marci Fucsovics, the Paris Olympics consisted of one match each in singles and doubles, but she was not disappointed. Why would it be, since he had a fantastic experience: he was able to face Rafa Nadal for the first time in his career, moreover, on the Spanish phenomenon’s own “home court”, Roland Garros.
“I will remember the Paris Olympics as a very good experience,” said Marci excitedly to the MOL Team. “You could say that I was lucky with the draw, because meeting Nadal in the first round also meant that I could play on the center court of Roland Garros for the first time, in front of a lot of people. That was an unrepeatable feeling in itself. The energy that the fans created was huge , and I was able to stretch myself out of it.”
When Nadal claps
Marci played a great match with Nadal, won the second set and had a chance in the final game as well, but unfortunately in the end it was not successful. And the fact that he stood up so well against the Spanish classic is not at all a coincidence.
With my staff and my coach Miki Palágyi, we immediately prepared against Nadal after the draw, how to stand up against the Roland Garros legend and win as many points as I can.
“The beginning of the match started a little rough, Nadal brought his service games, I had to catch up with him in rhythm, but as we progressed in the match, it got better and better and I was able to win the second set, which gave me a lot of confidence,” recalled the 6-4- re won the game.
“We prepared a lot for Nadal, since I haven’t had the chance to play with him in my career, until yesterday. I was looking forward to the meeting!”And when even he he responded appreciatively to each ball session during the match, it gave an extra boost.
“Of course, I’m disappointed that I couldn’t level up in the third set and unfortunately I had unforced errors, which were more and more common with Nadal towards the end of the match, but for him, perhaps thanks to the routine, it was just that much less that he was able to win the match .”
Overall, we can be very happy
The leading player of the MOL Team was not at all bothered by the fact that the audience supported the Spaniard in the match, and he himself drew strength from the great atmosphere. “Nadal is practically at home on the center court of Roland Garros, people love him in Paris as well. I was not surprised that they cheered for him in the stadium. But it was also very good to hear the Hungarian support, from here I would like to thank everyone who came out to support me and those who who cheered me on sitting in front of the screens!” I am proud to represent my country, I am grateful for the support!
– added Marci, who also said that his hand injury before the Olympics did not hinder him in Paris.
“I didn’t feel my injury during the match, I don’t even want to use it as an excuse. Simply the routine won yesterday and if I made fewer mistakes, maybe the end result would have been different. But overall, I’m very happy that I could play such a close and competitive match with Nadal.”
There was no souffle left for the pair
Unfortunately, the second clash did not come, because even though the Nadal-Alcaraz pair fulfilled their part of the task, Marci Fucsovics did not make it to the second round of the Olympic doubles competition on Fábián Marozsán’s side (since then, the two Spaniards have already eliminated the Dutch pair that bid farewell to the Marcies). The two Hungarians were forced to take the field barely a few hours after their singles matches.
“Unfortunately, we were both very tired for the doubles match. And the Dutch are a more used doubles team than we are with Fábi. We tried, but we couldn’t really apply our tactics against them,” said Marci about the match, which we lost in two sets, 6:2, 6:3 . But neither this nor the defeat suffered in the singles did not dampen the spirits of the Nyíregyháza classic, who answered the question about what kind of experience Paris was as a whole.
Very positive!
“I have had many good experiences, and now I can say that I have competed in an Olympics and tried to stand up with integrity. I hope I was able to give the fans proud moments. And it is always a good feeling to be a part of the whole, great Hungarian team, I keep pushing the others to perform as successfully as possible . And we continue to prepare for the Tour,” he added.
