Fujifilm is preparing an all-new camera for 2025: What sensor it will have

Good news for vloggers and photography enthusiasts: According to reliable industry sources, in this case Fuji Rumors, Fujifilm is working on an all-new camera that will debut next year.

Unlike the company’s previous releases, this model will not be a successor to any existing camera, but will have unique features.

It also seems that it will not be part of the current series of the famous Japanese manufacturer.

A unique sensor

What is the most intriguing element of this new device? The sensor format, which will apparently be a completely new one.

This novel detail has sparked a lot of speculation in the photography community, especially since Fujifilm already has a strong presence in several market segments.

We are talking here about the APS-C sensor cameras from the X series and the medium format ones from the GFX range.

Current situation

The Japanese multinational conglomerate currently uses the following types of sensors: 2/3-inch for older models such as the X30, X20 and X10, Medium Format for the GFX series, smaller sizes for the Finepix range and APS-C sensors for the X series.

Given that the new camera will not use either of these formats, speculation has turned to the possibility of introducing Micro Four Thirds or a full-frame sensor.

However, the full-frame market is already extremely competitive, being dominated by heavy names such as Leica, Sony, Nikon or Canon.

Possible directions

An interesting hypothesis would be the development of a premium compact camera with a 1-inch sensor and versatile zoom lens, similar to the Sony RX100 series.

Especially since Sony seems to have abandoned the RX100 series, and Fujifilm’s recent success with the X100VI proves that there is demand for high-quality compact cameras.

Rumors about the XPan-inspired TX-3 panoramic camera are unrelated to this project. According to sources, this is still in the discussion phase at Fujifilm and won’t be released before 2028.

The new camera from Fuji could be a significant step in the evolution of the brand, so it remains to be seen what surprises the Asian conglomerate will bring us in the coming years.
