The Japanese company was looking for a suitable accelerator for its processor under the code name Monaka.

Fujitsu wrote about a year ago its upcoming server processor, which runs under the code name Monaka, and will include 144 uniquely developed ARMv9-A cores. However, the design in question is only a processor, so in terms of the accelerator, the company must look for an alternative in order to offer a suitable platform to those interested.
Due to the above, the Japanese company entered into a strategic partnership with AMD, so the latter company’s Instinct accelerators will be used alongside the Monaka server processor. The collaboration also extends to the software, so the two parties involved optimize the software environment offered alongside their designs for side-by-side operation.
For Fujitsu, the new partnership provides a good basis for selecting the accelerator used by the FugakuNEXT project, which is intended to be the successor of the Fugaku supercomputer.
