Fully compatible wireless GameCube controller coming soon

In September 2001, the Nintendo GameCube arrived in Europe and was preparing to mark the lives of many players with cult games and a special controller. This controller, which succeeded the famous trident of the Nintendo 64, was much more pleasant to hold and remains to this day as one of the best Nintendo controllers.

Good news, it will soon be possible to make your own GameCube controller that will be fully compatible with the Nintendo Switch thanks to a new mod kit from 8BitDo.

It’s now official, you’ll soon be able to play the Switch with fully compatible GameCube controllers, wirelessly via Bluetooth. This is made possible by the latest solderless mod kit from 8BitDo at $26, which allows you to transform your old GameCube controller into a wireless Bluetooth device that works with the Nintendo Switch and Android devices (mobile and tablets). 8BitDo specifies that this accessory can also work with your original GameCube, but for that, you have to opt for a second “Retro” kit also offered at $26.

The kit gives you Hall effect joysticks, a trigger pack, and a 300mAh rechargeable battery that can last for about 6 hours on a single charge. Pre-orders for the kit are now open, with shipping scheduled for September 25th.

This is not the first time that an accessory has made it possible to make a GameCube controller functional on Switch. There is notably the GBros. adapter from 8BitDo and even an official adapter from Nintendo. However, until now, it was mandatory to keep the cables. With this new kit, you will be able to play without this constraint, to improve your gaming comfort.
