Galaxy devices ‘froze’ after updating an app

There are many unlucky ones owners of Galaxy devices as since morning they are having a not so fun day today, with their phones on stuck in endless bootloops after a SmartThings system app update. Affected devices include; the Galaxy S10 series, as well as the Galaxy Note 10 series. The complete list of devices can be found in the continuation of our article.

With system app updates, it’s entirely possible for system files to get corrupted after new files are imported, which can cause the bootloop issue we see here. The biggest problem for owners is that there is no obvious solution right now. The only solution to the problem is to wipe the device completely, with no way to back up or recover your data. This could cause a huge headache for users.

Devices reported to be affected:

  • S10
  • S10e
  • S10+
  • S10 5G
  • Note 10
  • Note 10+
  • Note 10+ 5G

Given the nature of the problem, it seems fair to assume that Samsung has a responsibility to fix it. We have no idea how they plan to do this, but we’ll keep you posted if we hear anything.
