Loaded with dozens of applications are usually most Galaxy devices from Samsung, in fact there are applications of its own and others from Google, the Meta and Microsoft. However, if Google goes one step further and implements its new plans, then Samsung may not need to pre-load its devices with as many Google apps as it does now.
Google: It has long recommended some to Android device manufacturers
With Google embroiled in an antitrust case over its online search engine market, the US Department of Justice has proposed sweeping changes to the way Google operates. He even suggested that Google sell the Android and Chrome. However, Google is apparently not happy with these suggestions.
In response, Google has suggests its own corrective measures to reduce its monopoly in the search market. One of the solutions proposed by the search giant is additional flexibility for device manufacturers to preload any Google app independently of preloading Google Chrome and the Google Search service.
So, hypothetically speaking, Samsung can preload Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Search, but not ship its phones and tablets with Google Drive, Google Home, and YouTube Musc. Instead, she could choose to ship her phones with Microsoft OneDrive, SmartThings, and Spotify.
Google said browser companies like Apple, The Browser Company, Mozilla and Opera should continue to be free to tinker with the search engine they think is best for their users. He suggests that these companies should have additional flexibility in platforms and ways of browsing.
So it’s not unlikely that we’ll someday see Apple have a search engine for iPhone and another for iPad. Google has also proposed that companies can change their default search engine every twelve months.
If the US Department of Justice agree to Google’s proposed remedies, Samsung will be free not to ship Galaxy phones and tablets with as many Google apps as it currently does.
While the Justice Department wants any proposed changes to remain in place for at least ten years, Google is only proposing the remedies for three years, saying the pace of innovation has been extraordinary.
In any case, the outcome of the antitrust case against Google will come only after the hearing between Google and the Department of Justice, which is scheduled to be held in April 2025. The judge in that hearing is expected to rule before September 2025 .
