To best welcome its Indian customers as the 2024 Olympic Games approach, Galeries Lafayette is introducing UPI payment.
After a successful launch in France on the Eiffel Tower site last February, UPI QR code payment arrives with the support of Lyra in the world of department stores. On July 3, Galeries Lafayette announced the possibility for Indian tourists to pay with their preferred payment method directly in store on a payment terminal. This initiative is intended to confirm the brand’s desire to be attentive to international trends.
This initiative comes just days before the opening of the Paris Olympics, in order to best welcome tourists for the occasion. Starting July 26, the Paris Olympics are expected to attract a large number of Indian visitors. Jawed Ashraf, Indian Ambassador to Francehopes that this will pave the way for broad acceptance of UPI in France and will support its internationalization as a digital means of payment.
A collaborative project
This new service was able to quickly see the light of day thanks to the involvement of many players, notably Lyra for the acceptance of the means of payment, Monday Morning Group for Compatibility with RoverCash cash register software and NPCI International for deployment.

The Lundi Matin group has integrated the UPI payment method directly into its RoverCash software. So when a customer wants to pay with UPI at Galeries Lafayette, theThe seller simply clicks the UPI button in their cash register software. A dynamic QR code is instantly displayed on the screen. The customer simply scans it with their mobile application to validate the payment.
