Domestic. In review carried out by SVT shows that in 2023 alone, Swedish municipalities paid out SEK 212 million to HVB homes with links to serious organized crime.

Among the representatives of these companies are people who have been suspected of serious gang-related crimes – and in one of the residences the police have found drugs, ammunition and protective vests.

Despite the fact that the police sounded the alarm a month ago that a number of HVB homes are run by network criminals, these homes still have their permits and they still accept placed children.

An employee within a municipality describes the situation as unsustainable and believes that the control of the activities is inadequate.

– In our exercise of authority, we receive care for children who are in trouble. But have very limited opportunities to control the businesses that are supposed to take care of them themselves, the employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, tells SVT.

The source continues:

– The suppliers provide a declaration of truth and the information that can be checked comes from the supplier. Everything is based on trust in welfare.

Minister of Social Services Camilla Waltersson Grönvall (M) has previously said that the relevant HVB homes should be closed, but no concrete action has yet been taken.
