Garmin enriched its maps with a bunch of new functions, but the Czechs will cry

  • In April, Garmin brought the Outdoor Maps+ service to the Czech Republic
  • For 1,210 CZK per year, it offers a number of premium map functions
  • Their list is now being expanded by others, but only two will come to Europe

In April this year, the premium service Garmin Outdoor Maps+ it finally reached European countries, including the Czech Republic. For an additional annual fee, owners of selected watches or applications can enjoy access to a number of above-standard functions. Their list is now expanding significantly, here, however, Garmin is only catching up.

The new pack for Outdoor Maps+ brings European users the following two functionswhich were previously available in the US:

  • Raster maps: Get highly detailed raster maps that show trail and trail starting points, camping areas, points of interest, water resources, and more. Data from leading providers from France and Switzerland and the US and Canada.
  • Advanced relief shading: Enjoy enhanced map detail with shading that helps visually show elevation changes and terrain features. Coverage extended to other European countries.

Americans are a bit luckier, as Garmin has extended their subscription to include six brand new gadgets:

  • Cultural heritage points: On the map you can view castles, fortresses, lighthouses, church monuments and other historical attractions around the world.
  • Camps: Find a place to stay and see what amenities are available in the US and Canada.
  • DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer Places: Search for places of interest in the US such as unique natural features such as mountains and waterfalls, available outdoor recreation activities, family attractions, recreation areas such as state/national parks/forests, and places to fish or hunt.
  • Body USFS: Check out United States Forest Service sites for camping, hiking, picnicking, outdoor learning, wildlife viewing, fishing, and more.
  • LTE voice coverage: See if voice coverage is available on a map layer showing LTE coverage for Verizon, AT&T, UScellular and T-Mobile wireless carriers across the US.
  • Buildings: Pinpoint your location or get help planning a route using a map layer showing 2D building outlines. Expanded to all areas of the US, Canada, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
