Garmin releases big summer update

Among other things, Garmin introduces support for direct messages and its own version of find the mobile.

Garmin announces that it has started rolling out this summer’s big update that introduces new features to a range of the company’s smartwatches.

One of the features is the introduction of instant messaging so that it is possible to send and receive text messages with the watch. The watch still needs to be paired with a mobile unless it’s an LTE model, but now the user doesn’t have to pick up the mobile to manage messages.

They are also introducing their own version of find my mobile. If you happen to drop your phone while doing a GPS activity, the watch stores the location of where it last had contact with the phone and can guide users to that location. Also notifies the user when it loses contact with the mobile.

Garmin also adds an iPhone-specific function to synchronize navigation between the iPhone, the Garmin watch and, for example, the cycling computers in the Edge series.

However, not all Garmin models receive all functions. For more information on which devices get which features, visit Garmin’s website for updates.
