BANJALUKA, SARAJEVO – In the last few days, fuel prices at gas stations throughout BiH have been falling, on average by about 10 pfennigs per liter, and the trend of lower prices can be expected in the coming period as well, experts in this field point out.
Namely, as they say, the new lower prices are precisely because the price of a barrel of oil at the world level is 71 dollars, which is the lowest since December 2021.
Almir Bečarević, energy expert, points out for “Independent newspaper” that due to events on the world stock markets, the price of fuel also fell in BiH. pumps.
“There has already been a drop in fuel prices at the pump by five to ten pfennigs per liter, but in the coming days there will be an additional drop precisely because of what is happening on the stock markets.” said Bečarević and pointed out that the total could be up to 15 pfennigs per liter.
And Milovan Bajić, vice president of the Oil and Oil Derivatives Trade Group of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Srpska and director of “Krajinapetrol”, told “Nezavisne novine” that the price of both diesel and gasoline dropped by about 10 pfennigs.
“The market has stabilized, and fuel consumption has decreased, since the annual vacations are over, there is less circulation of people”, said Bajic.
He added that in the last few days there have been two price corrections.
“In the last ten days, the price of fuel, both gasoline and diesel, has been lowered twice, so for sure about 10 pfennigs per liter”, said Bajic.
He points out that it is very difficult to forecast what will happen in the coming period, because prices are constantly changing on world markets.
Admir Arnautović, president of the Consumers’ Association “Club of Central Bosnia” Travnik, points out for “Nezavisne novine” that the prices of oil and all types of fuel in BiH primarily depend on the movement of those prices on the world market.
“In general, our distributors and fuel sellers do not really monitor it on a daily basis – either for objective reasons, because they bought fuel at higher prices, or for subjective reasons and making extra profit, which was the reaction of the inspections”, said Arnautovic.
As he said, in any case, any reduction in the price of fuel has a positive effect on consumers, but there is another problem, which usually nobody takes into account.
“Increasing fuel prices in BiH was always an excuse for raising prices and everything else, from bread in bakeries, to agricultural products, to construction materials and services in catering facilities. In some cases justified, in others not really. Now will any of these lower the prices of their products and services because fuel has become cheaper? Unfortunately, from previous experience, we know that they will not, and thus they will realize extra profits that will be paid out of their own pockets by consumers. And that’s where pensioners and minimum wage workers regularly fare the worst.” concluded Arnautović.
Gas stations in Srpska point out that the price of fuel has dropped in recent days, and that diesel prices range from 2.33 to 2.43 KM, while gasoline costs from 2.39 to 2.47 KM.
Let us remind you that last week the price of oil sank almost 10 percent on the London market, plunging to the lowest levels since the end of 2021, as traders fear that due to the slow growth of the world economy, the demand for “black gold” will weaken.
On the London market, the price of a barrel sank 9.8 percent last week to $71.06, the lowest level since December 2021.
On the American market, however, the price of a barrel decreased by eight percent, to 67.67 dollars, the lowest level since June 2023.
After oil prices fell in August, their negative trend continued at the beginning of September, and traders are worried about the slowdown in the growth of the world’s largest economies, which is why the demand for “black gold” is weakening. Independent newspaper
