Geely has launched its new electric SUV, the E5designed to be sold globally. The E5 will be available in both left- and right-hand drive and already meets the safety requirements of 89 countries. The Geely E5 has large dimensions: measures 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Equipped with a front electric motor that delivers 218 hp and 320 Nm of torque, the E5 offers two battery options: a 49 kWh with a declared range of 440 km, and a 60 kWh that promises up to 530 km.
The technological heart of the E5 is the large central infotainment screenwhich controls most of the vehicle’s functions. Physical buttons are kept to a minimum and concentrated primarily on the spokes of the square steering wheel. Level 2 assisted driving is included as standard, offering an advanced semi-autonomous driving experience.
The E5 is Geely’s first electric car to use new lithium-iron-phosphate batteries Aegis Short Bladelaunched last June. These batteries boast an energy density of 192 Wh/kg and an estimated lifespan of 3,500 charging cycles. Geely claims that these batteries can enable the E5 to travel up to one million kilometers with minimal impact on range.
Geely has not yet announced a European market arrival date for the E5. In China, where the SUV is already available to order, prices start at 109,800 yuan (about 14,000 euros) for the basic Sailing Edition version with a 49 kWh battery, up to 145,800 yuan (about 18,700 euros) for the Starship Edition with a 60 kWh battery. The Geely E5 represents an important step in the global expansion of electric vehicles, with a mix of advanced technology, excellent performance and a competitive price range.
