Geely officially enters the Romanian car market. The first available model will be a small SUV

The Chinese car manufacturer Geely officially debuts on the Romanian market. The first car that customers can order is the Coolray SUV.

Geely debuted today, September 20, on the Romanian car market, where it is going to market, at least in the first phase, three SUV models. The first of them, which we had the opportunity to drive today, is the Geely Coolray, a car that wants to steal from customers Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, MG ZS or even Dacia Duster.

To begin with, the Chinese brand will have 13 partner dealers in Romania through which it will sell its cars. These locations will also handle service. Officials of the brand stated that there is also a parts warehouse near Bucharest and that they have stockpiled components for customers. By the end of this year, it is expected that the dealer network will be expanded to 20.

Geely Coolray attacks the B segment

The first model that Geely will sell in Romania is the Coolray subcompact SUV. There will be two trim levels, the difference being made by the available colors and the design of the alloy wheels. Otherwise, the cars are equipped exactly the same, regardless of the version, and the prices will be between 25,000 and 29,000 euros, approximately.

All Coolray models benefit from full LED headlights, surround cameras, 18-inch alloy wheels, an aggressive body kit (which may not be to everyone’s taste), but also a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The only engine available is a 1.5 turbo, on gasoline, which develops 172 HP and 290 Nm. The 0-100 sprint is ready in 7.6 seconds, and the maximum speed is 195 km/h.

Also, the inside of the Coolray is the same regardless of the version. The cars are equipped with synthetic leather upholstery in two tones – black and red – a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch diagonal multimedia screen. It only offers Apple CarPlay integration, and only by wire. There’s also a wireless phone charging pad, panoramic sunroof, electric seat adjustments, seat heating, and the boot measures 330 litres.

Two other models will be launched in the next period

Last but not least, Geely is going to bring two more models to Romania. By the end of this year, the manufacturer will open orders for the Starray, an SUV that will compete with cars such as Hyundai Tucson or Kia Sportage. The launch of the E5 electric SUV on the Romanian market is scheduled for the first part of 2025. No other information has yet been communicated about them.
