Geforce RTX 5080: First price rumors with bad news

Nvidia-GPU

The RTX 5080 will probably celebrate its release in a few weeks – at a higher price than its predecessor. At least that’s what an Australian leaker on YouTube claims.

Nvidia is expected to introduce the new RTX 5000 generation in just over a week. On January 6th, the GPU manufacturer invites you to the keynote at CES 2025, where the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 will probably be shown. While there are already some rumors about the RRP of the flagship model, there has so far been little talk about a possible price for the underlying graphics card.

The YouTuber Vex claims to have now received initial information from an Australian dealer who briefly had a custom model of the RTX 5080 in the online shop. As a result, the Asus ROG Strix RTX 5080 will be available over the counter at a price of around 2,800 Australian dollars. This would be the equivalent of around 1,800 euros – a surcharge of more than 20 percent compared to the RRP of the RTX 4080, which came onto the market for 1,469 euros.

Now the Asus model mentioned is one of the most expensive custom variants among the GPUs, so there is a decent additional price here. Nvidia’s reference model for the RTX 5080, called “Founders Edition”, is likely to be a little cheaper. However, this first leak on the price of the new Blackwell graphics card still gives an indication that prospective buyers have to be prepared for a higher RRP than its predecessor.
