Gel polish can cause severe allergies

The number of allergic symptoms caused by gel polish is constantly increasing.

Although it sounds almost unbelievable, gel polishes also cause allergies in more and more people, which is mostly due to the fact that the ingredients of polishes are constantly changing, new products are appearing on the market, and the application is not always professional.

An allergy to gel polish can be recognized by an itchy feeling, redness and small water blisters appearing around the nails and on the fingertips – we can read in the announcement of the Semmelweis University. But these often appear not immediately, but even several years after the first use.

“The most common cause of the problem is if the varnish does not solidify completely, and some of the liquid substance gets into the skin at the edges of the nails, which causes so-called allergic contact dermatitis (skin inflammation)” – quoted by in a statement Lőrinc Kendét, a Department of Dermatology, Gynecology and Dermatology, Semmelweis University assistant professor.

If such problems are detected, the gel polish must be removed as quickly as possible so that it does not cause further inflammation and the affected area does not become infected, and then we consult a qualified dermatologist. Fortunately, allergic reactions and inflammation can be quickly cured with various preparations.
