Vidhay Reddy, the young man who received the response, believes that technology companies need to be held accountable for incidents like this. “I think there is an issue of responsibility for the damage caused. If one person threatened another, there would be repercussions or, at least, discussion about the issue.”
Google has already ensured that Gemini has “security filters that prevent 'chatbots' from participating in disrespectful, violent or dangerous conversations, or encouraging harmful acts. He stated that “language models can sometimes give meaningless answers, and this is an example of that” and assured that measures were taken to avoid similar situations in the future. “This response violated our policies.”
