Gemini Live: Google’s conversational AI is free – with a catch

Also in Germany

The AI conversation model Gemini Live is now available free of charge on all Android smartphones. However, the launch does have one disadvantage.

As part of the launch of the new Pixel 9 smartphones, Google also presented a new feature for its artificial intelligence, dubbed “Gemini”. With Gemini Live, users get a chatbot similar to the regular AI model, but thanks to spoken communication, it is supposed to act much more fluidly and naturally.

At the start, Gemini Live was explicitly only available to owners of the paid Gemini Advanced subscription. As the company is now doing on the X/Twitter platform explainedthe rollout of the feature has now begun for all Android users, regardless of subscription status. There is also no Pixel exclusivity, as was the case with the “Circle to Search” function, as part of the release. The release is worldwide.

However, there is a catch: Gemini Live is currently only available in English. Accordingly, the language must be set to English in the settings in the Google app in the “Google Assistant” submenu. It is not yet known when additional languages will be added.
