BarcelonaThe La 1 channel of Televisió Española will bring back the famous program this fall weekly 59 seconds, which was broadcast between 2004 and 2012, with Mamen Mendizábal, Ana Pastor and María Casado as presenters of the different stages. In this new era, the journalist Gemma Nierga will be in charge of presenting the format, which has the peculiarity that the panelists have 59 seconds to express their opinions on the topics of discussion, mainly related to politics but also linked to other issues current affairs Nierga will combine this work with the program Coffee of ideas of La 2 and Ràdio 4, who has been captain since October 2020.
The objective of 59 seconds is to occupy the prime time with a program aimed at large audiences, which will combine political and social debates with humorous sketches, parodies and live interviews. As a novelty, the program will incorporate tools such as augmented reality and, in addition, each week will have 150 people from the public who will actively participate from the set.
The program, which will be produced in collaboration with Globomedia, will be broadcast from the RTVE studios in Sant Cugat del Vallès. In an interview with the ARA in September 2023, Nierga said that “TVE in Catalonia, for the past two or three seasons, is having more of a presence” and gave as an example “Marc Giró’s program, (which) has worked extraordinarily well.”
