Hollywood star George Clooney, one of the first Democratic activists to urge Joe Biden to stop running, announced his support for Kamala Harris on Tuesday. At the same time, he welcomed Biden’s withdrawal.

“President Biden showed what true leadership is. He saves democracy once again. We are all very excited to do everything we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic endeavor,” Clooney said in a statement to CNN.
A major fundraiser for Democratic candidates and a longtime Biden supporter, Clooney broke ranks two weeks ago, openly asking the 81-year-old president to give up the seat to a younger candidate so the party would have a chance bigger than defeating Donald Trump in November.
“I love Joe Biden,” Clooney wrote in The New York Times: “I count him as a friend and I believe in him… But the only battle he can’t win is the battle against time.”
With Biden at the top of the list, the Oscar winner said, Democrats “won’t win in November,” will lose control of the Senate and won’t get a majority in the House of Representatives.
Biden suddenly announced on Sunday that he was leaving the race and supported his vice president. Harris quickly won overwhelming support from party leaders and collected a huge amount of donations from voters.
