AUR leader George Simion accuses the state of political police, claiming that hundreds of AUR members and sympathizers were summoned to the Police and Prosecutor’s Office. According to Simion, they are trying to intimidate people, so that they renounce AUR.
“The abuses against me and the AUR party continue. Hundreds of AUR members and sympathizers write to me that they have been summoned to the Police or Prosecutor’s Office next week. The reason is simple: membership of the AUR. I believe it is a way for these people to be intimidated, to disown us, AUR. In addition to intimidation, they are trying to eliminate AUR from the political sphere, by affecting the collection of the 200 thousand signatures necessary for my candidacy in the presidential elections and for the list of parliamentarians”, George Simion said on his website.
According to the AUR leader, members are asked by the police how long they have been in the party, what is written in the signed membership and if they know Silvestru Şoşoacă.
“Perhaps you remember the episode before the European parliamentary elections. For a month and a half I have not even been cited, although public accusations have been brought against me, although I have no capacity in this case. I was fired from the Prosecutor’s Office when I came to the hearings on my own initiative. I haven’t had a phone for a month and a half, neither I, nor the other colleagues from AUR who were taken from the street and whose phones and laptops were confiscated without any right. Since then, prosecutors with skills worthy of the Soviet era refuse to conduct computer searches. Now, hundreds of members and sympathizers are called to the police. Who pays the bill for this abuse and what is the final plan that these politically guided prosecutors have for me and the AUR party?”, emphasizes Simion.
He claims that the current power wants to eliminate him from the political scene, because he has every chance to reach the second presidential round.
“I am the president of the AUR party, the main opposition force. The last opinion poll put me in the race for the presidential elections in 2nd place after the current prime minister with 19% of Romanians’ preferences. I had the opportunity to win the European parliamentary elections before the current government illegally merged the elections and I believe that on June 9 the electoral act and the voting process were seriously flawed”, writes George Simion.
George Simion is targeted by the prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice after he allegedly instigated members of the formation to falsify the lists of supporters necessary for the candidacy, as an independent, in the European parliamentary elections by Silvestru Şoşoacă, the husband of senator Diana Şoşoacă.
The information and public relations office within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice announced, in June, that the case prosecutor within the Criminal Investigation Section is investigating a criminal case in which it was noted that, in April 2024, the leader of a parliamentary formation, a deputy, “instigated, both directly and through intermediaries, several members of a political formation and a number of employees of the Romanian Parliament who carry out lucrative activities within the respective political formation, to proceed to falsify several thousand lists of supporters necessary for the submission by an independent candidate of the candidacy for the European Parliament elections on June 9, 2024”.
