German darts stars miss big win

The German darts stars Gabriel Clemens and Martin Schindler missed the big win at the two most recent Players Championship tournaments in Milton Keynes, but still presented themselves in decent form.

Clemens and Schindler each reached the third round of the 18th Players Championship event of the season on Wednesday.

Clemens lost 4:6 in the legs against Danny Noppert, Schindler also lost 4:6 against James Wade.

With Florian Hempel, Daniel Klose, Rene Eidams and Kai Gotthardt, four other German darts players made it to the second round.

At the 19th Players Championship tournament on Thursday, Clemens was the best German. This time, the “German Giant” even reached the round of 16. On the way there, the 41-year-old beat Usher Graham (6:2), Danny van Trijp (6:2) and Alan Soutar (6:5). In the round of 16, he was narrowly defeated by Thibault Tricole (5:6).

Schindler and Wenig made it to the third round. The former had to admit defeat to Wade again (5:6). Wenig lost his match against Martin Lukeman (4:6).

Hempel lost 3:6 to Michael van Gerwen in the second round. The other German darts players all failed in their opening matches on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Damon Heta and Chris Dobey took home the tournament victories.

Heta won the final on Wednesday with 8:3 against Ryan Searle. Dobey triumphed with an 8:6 against Cameron Menzies.
