German handball players win next Olympic test

Germany’s handball players have also won their second Olympic test.

The team of national coach Alfred Gislason defeated Hungary 33:29 (20:13) in Stuttgart on Friday and gained further momentum for the medal mission in France.

Eight days before the opening match against Sweden, left winger Lukas Mertens (6 goals) was the best scorer for the selection of the German Handball Association (DHB) in front of 5,022 spectators.

On Sunday (5.30 p.m./Sport1) there will be a dress rehearsal against preliminary round opponents Japan at the same venue before the departure to France. In the first test, Gislason’s team won 35:30 against European champions and Olympic champions France in Dortmund last Saturday.

In addition to European Championship third-place finishers Sweden (Saturday/7 p.m./ARD and Eurosport) and the Japanese (July 29), Germany’s Olympic opponents in Group A are Croatia (July 31), World Cup third-place finishers Spain (August 2) and Slovenia (August 4).

The four best teams from each of the two groups of six will advance to the quarter-finals (7 August), which, like the semi-finals (9 August) and final (11 August), will be played at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy football stadium in Lille.
