German prosecutors have filed charges against three men with dual German-Russian citizenship for plotting attacks on German military and industrial facilities.
In April of this year, news broke that German police were conducting house searches at the homes and workplaces of two men suspected of collaborating with a foreign secret service. Both persons, German-Russian citizens, were arrested. As the German prosecutor’s office explained at the time, one of the suspects is a 39-year-old man Dieter S.discussed possible sabotage plans with a person connected to the Russian secret service since October 2023. They are said to have planned bombing attacks on military facilities or arson of these facilities, including military facilities operated by the US Army in Germany. The German newspaper Spiegel reported at the time that the Grafenwoehr military base in Bavaria, where Ukrainian soldiers are trained to use American Abrams main battle tanks, was also among the possible targets. Second suspect, 37 years old Alexander J.is supposed to help Dieter from at least March of this year onwards. German police later arrested another person in connection with the investigation.

The prosecutor’s office announced on Monday that it had filed an indictment against the trio. According to the German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle, Dieter is said to be a veteran of a pro-Russian military militia. Between December 2014 and September 2016, he is said to have fought in Ukraine, namely in one of the units of the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk, which Germany considers a terrorist organization. The main goal of the trio is said to be “to undermine the military aid that Germany provides to Ukraine due to the Russian war of aggression,” explained the prosecution, which in the indictment largely repeated the accusations of planning attacks on facilities in Germany.
