Germans are banned from OnePlus. The brand is ending (again) in the market there

OnePlus phones are banned in Germany

Three years ago, a dispute between Nokia and Oppo flared up in Europe, which resulted in a ban on the sale of Oppo phones in Germany. This dispute also affected the OnePlus brand, but it was later resolved and phone sales resumed. But that is no longer the case, a completely new case has recently flared up and OnePlus phones cannot be sold in Germany again.

OnePlus phones are banned in Germany again

This time it’s because of InterDigital. This company is engaged in wireless charging research and development and holds several key patents for mobile phones, including 5G technologies. And it is these patents that should be the subject of problems OnePlus.

About this new dispute between InterDigital and OnePlus in Germany informed server there Allround-PC. This is a big blow for the Chinese manufacturer, because the resumption of sales of these phones in the German market is only a few months old, and the brand is therefore again running into a problem.

The sales ban was caused by 5G patents

Is history repeating itself?

The whole case is reminiscent of the dispute with Nokia, the settlement of which took almost two years and has a similar course. All phones have disappeared from the German OnePlus website, and customers there can only buy the OnePlus Pad 2 tablet, the Buds Pro 3 headphones and the Watch 2 watch.

So it is quite evident that this is some kind of 5G patent, which probably OnePlus uses without adequate license fees. We will see how long this whole case will last, however, the dispute with Nokia has dragged on for almost two years, which is definitely not a good prospect.

OnePlus statement

The Chinese manufacturer commented on the whole situation and gave an explanation. He stated that he places a high value on intellectual property rights and respects fair access to patents. The company will also continue to negotiate with InterDigital in an attempt to resolve the situation amicably. It is therefore evident that OnePlus is not indifferent to the whole situation and wants to get back into the game as quickly as possible in Germany.
