Germans have been complaining for a long time that Croatia is TOO EXPENSIVE for them, and this branch stands out in particular

Croatian camping tourism makes up almost a quarter (23 percent) of the accommodation capacity in that country, and more than 50 percent are high-quality accommodation units, i.e. 4 and 5 star camps. This season, ending on November 3, there were almost 3.4 million arrivals and 21.2 million overnight stays in 825 Croatian campsites.

This could be heard at the annual meeting of the industry organized by the Camping Association of Croatia (KUH), with the support of the Croatian Tourist Board and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in Terme Tuhelj. The multi-day meeting will discuss the results of this year’s season, as well as technological innovations that can improve tourism.

Thanks to continuous investments and an innovative approach, the camps are at the very top in terms of quality in the Mediterranean, and looking at the period of the last 10 years, we note an increase in overnight stays of 28.5 percent, which is a significant extension of the main season on the coast and an increase in interest in camping in the continental part countries.

“Continuous investment in the camps in recent years has resulted in an increase in the number of guests, but there is still room for growth. In the future, we will strongly advocate for the improvement of working conditions and the competitiveness of the camping sector and strongly invest in the development of camping, convinced that with investments in infrastructure and attractive facilities that our guests are looking for, camping can be the backbone of sustainable tourism. This has been recognized by the profession, that is, some of the leading institutions, authorities in European camping, rate our camps very highly – we are at the very top in terms of quality in Europe, right behind the Netherlands,” said the director. KUH-a Adriano Palman.

Camping is too expensive for Germans

During the conversation with Uwe Frers, executive director of PiNCAMP ADAC, it is clear that German tourists, the most numerous guests, will be cautious in the next season due to geopolitical crises in the world, sudden internal political changes in Germany and the weakening of the economy. This is especially important because, according to his research, in the eyes of Germans, Croatia was the most expensive camping destination in 2024, and some of the guests might choose Italy next year.

“Germans who have been camping in Croatia for many years remember it as a cheap destination. Now that prices are higher, 46 percent of respondents perceive it as too expensive. A smaller part of them could therefore decide for a shorter stay, and a larger part will change their chosen destination,” Frers said, writes Poslovni dnevnik.

But Germany’s caution is still no cause for alarm in the Croatian camp, as early bookings for 2025 have doubled compared to this year. HTZ expects Croatia to remain among the top 10 tourist destinations for European tourists, and neighboring countries are the number one choice for Austrians, French and Poles.

“There is nothing to worry about as long as the prices are not too high, especially inside the camp itself compared to the prices in the rest of the site. I expect three months of high attendance at Croatian camping locations,” said Niels Fasen, contact manager at Campingvision, an online tour operator specializing in family vacation bookings with a constantly growing share of the European market. Camping Vision currently has partnerships with around 1,300 top European campsites and 50 camping tour operators.

The Balkan tourist destination stands in the way of MASS TOURISM: Here are the measures they are bringing

According to the latest research by ETC Monitoring Sentiment for Intra-European Travel, in 2025 European travel is expected to grow by 6 percent compared to this year. So, despite the negative economic and geopolitical circumstances, the desire to travel remains at a very high level, and for Croatia, this year has already been successful for the tourism sector.
