Germany presents autonomous ARTE train. Will it carry passengers?

Autonomous trains are being tested in Japan, but not only. Similar projects are also being developed in Europe, also beyond our western border. On Monday, Alstom presented its own vehicle for regional transport in Germany, which can move without a driver.

The presentation took place on Monday in Salztgitter, Lower Saxony, Germany. Journalists gathered there, including from Poland, who were able to ride ARTE (Autonomous Regional Train Evolution) and learn more about it.

ARTE is an autonomous train where the manufacturer used a set of specialized cameras and sensors. They allow for autonomous driving without a driver. The system monitors the tracks and the surroundings. It is also able to receive signals related to traffic management. Of course, something can always go wrong and Alstom has taken such eventualities into account.
