Germany achieves very good results in the context of the development of renewable energy sources. German Federal Statistical Office – Federal Office of Statisticsconfirmed what was previously written by presenting data on the capacity of solar energy.
As they stated, in Germany in April 2024, about 3.4 million solar systems were installed on roofs and plots, with a total maximum power of about 81,500 megawatts. Compared to the same month in 2023, the number of systems increased by 29.8 percent, and in terms of installed power, the increase was recorded by 20.5 percent.
Almost all solar installations that contribute to public energy networks and that have a current meter that measures the amount of electricity produced are covered here. However, smaller installations, such as so-called balcony solar systems, are not included in the statistics. To clarify, these types of solar systems are also designed for use by private households and are usually installed on terraces or smaller yards.
The success of the operation of solar systems is confirmed by the growth of the energy obtained in this way in the total production of electricity. During the last year, about 53 million megawatt-hours of electricity obtained from solar energy were fed into the grid. In this way, its share in total production was 11.9 percent, breaking the previous record.
Import, export and production
During the first five months of 2024, Germany recorded a significant drop in the import of solar systems. More precisely, from January to my month, the value of imported solar cells and modules decreased by 66 percent. As stated, the export value of solar systems has also decreased by about 64 percent.
In 2023, China was the country from which Germany imported the most, as much as 86.4 percent. For the sake of comparison, it is followed by the Netherlands with 5.4 percent and Vietnam with 2.6 percent, which represents significantly lower imports. When it comes to exports, it was done by the highest countries in Europe. In first place is Australia with 17.8 percent, Italy with 11.4 percent and Switzerland with nine percent.
In Germany, a significant drop in the production of solar modules was also recorded in the first quarter of 2024, by more than 50 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In addition, the production of solar collectors decreased by about 67 percent.
