The coach of the Farul Constanţa formation, Gheorghe Hagi, was appointed, on Wednesday, the first choice for the position of selector of the national team of Romania by the Technical Commission of the Romanian Football Federation. In the next period, the FRF leadership will start negotiations with Gheorghe Hagi.
The Romanian Football Federation announced, on Monday, on the official website, the end of the collaboration with the selector Edward Iordănescu, after the extension of the contract due at the end of this month was no longer possible, the two parties failing to reach an agreement.
In the mandate of Edward Iordănescu, the national team recorded, in 28 games, 10 victories, 10 draws and 8 defeats.
After a campaign in the League of Nations, in 2022, which represented a stage of preparation for the EURO 2024 preliminaries, FRF decided to continue the collaboration with Iordănescu, and in the qualification campaign for the final tournament in Germany, the national team finished in first place, undefeated , and with only 5 goals conceded in the 10 games.
At the final tournament of EURO 2024, under the leadership of Edward Iordănescu, Romania won the group, surpassing Belgium, Slovakia and Ukraine. In the first match of the final tournament, the tricolors achieved the most decisive victory in the history of participation in the final, world and European tournaments, defeating Ukraine with a score of 3-0.
