Giants players criticize Daniel Jones’ dismissal

Quarterback Daniel Jones was relegated to the bench by the New York Giants this week. After the G-Men’s decline, this move surprised very few NFL experts. However, there is resistance to this decision within the team.

On the sidelines of a charity event, Giants defenseman Dexter Lawrence made it clear that he is not a fan of the Jones demotion. “This is my best friend. It’s hard that something like this happens. This is my boy. As a player you have to keep playing. As a person and a brother, I feel for him,” the nose tackle said on Tuesday.

Under Jones’ leadership, the New Yorkers have only won two of their ten games of the season so far. The QB also contributed significantly to this sobering balance with his weak performances (eight touchdowns, seven interceptions).

Still, Lawrence resisted publicly shaming Jones, saying, “Teams lose games, not just one player, and I think that should be understood.” He himself still thinks highly of Jones, with whom he was hired by the Giants in 2019.

“He’s the QB1. For me, he’s the best quarterback on the team,” emphasized Lawrence. “But they see things differently. I think that’s all that matters.”

NFL professional rails against Giants bosses

In addition to the tackle, there is another (anonymous) Giants professional who was upset about the dismissal of Daniel Jones. What particularly upset him was that the measure was sold as a sporting decision.

“We’re not idiots. They did it for the money,” complained the player in an interview with NFL insider Jordan Schultz. “So be it. But Daniel was great, never complained and is now being completely ignored. Blaming him is nonsense and making him third man is damn weak.”

He was alluding to the $23 million guaranteed that Jones would collect next year if he failed medical exams due to an injury. This contract clause certainly played a role when the Giants replaced Jones with Tommy DeVito this week and made him QB3.
