David Popovici won two Olympic medals, one gold and one bronze, but he will collect less than the annual salary that Gigi Becali gives Risto Radunovic.

Romanian swimmer David Popovici rewrote history at the Olympic Games, becoming, after 24 years, the first Romanian to win two medals at the same edition.

David Popovici won the bronze medal in 100 meters two days after he became Olympic champion in his favorite event, the 200 meters. Elisabeta Lipă, the president of the National Sports Agency, revealed what prize the “Shark” will receive.

“140,000 euros for a gold medal, 100,000 euros for a silver medal and 60,000 euros for a bronze medal. The only Euro premieres are at the Olympic Games. Otherwise, we have the equivalent in lei.

The money is provided by the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee. In our country, only the state awards champions, Olympic medalists. There are sponsors in other countries”, revealed Lipă, according to the report iamsport.ro.

Risto Radunovic takes 240,000 euros per year from Gigi Becali

As a parallel, the Montenegrin defender earns a much higher annual salary at FCSB. Gigi Becali, the owner of the champion, made it known what salary he will give the player, so that he extends his agreement due on the last day of 2024.

“I signed with Radunovic for two and a half years. I already signed. I will give him 20,000 per month”, declared Gigi Becali.

Interestingly, however, the player contradicts the businessman. Radunovic stated, at the end of the match Maccabi Tel-Aviv – FCSB 0-1which confirmed the qualification of the red-blues in the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League, that he has nothing concrete.

“I have a contract for now, we’ll see what happens. Now I’m allowed to talk to anyone and we’ll see what happens. I can’t talk, we see what the agents say, what they say and I’m waiting for the best solution. I don’t have anything concrete, I spoke with someone, but I can’t say that it’s official”, declared Radunovic, at the end of the game with Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

FCSB qualified for the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League after Williams Baeten’s goal in the 90th minute of the match played in Budapest. Maccabi had the status of host, but the match could not be played in Israel, due to the conflict situation in the Gaza Strip.
