Given the low sales of electric cars, the value of the Rabla Plus ticket could increase in 2025

The Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, stated that the Rabla Plus ticket increase is being considered. The decline in sales of electric cars brings a response from the Government.

It’s no secret that electric car sales are down in 2024 compared to last year. This is not only happening in Romania, but the decrease in the value of the Rabla Plus eco-ticket had a visible effect on the pure electric car market.

Between January and August 2024, sales of electric cars fell by 35% compared to the same period last year. Also, between July and August 2024, sales of zero-emission models fell by 70%, according to the analysis Profit.ro.

Seeing this downward trend of electric car sales in Romania, the value of the Rabla Plus ticket could be increased for 2025, according to the statements made by the Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet.

The value of the ticket for electric cars could be higher in 2025

“The decision to reduce the amount of the ticket for Rabla Plus is a decision that belongs to the Ministry of Public Finance. We have since then proposed a value higher than the threshold we have today, namely 5,000 euros, and I am convinced that, after we draw a line at the end of the year and see to what extent the reduction of this voucher has affected the sale of electric cars in Romania, I am convinced that for the year 2025 this threshold will be adjusted accordingly”, declared Mircea Fechet.

For 2024, the bonus received by customers through the Rabla Plus program has decreased from around 10,000 euros to around 5,000. This has contributed to diminishing interest in electric cars.

Some manufacturers have taken steps to counteract the effect of the lower bonus. For example, Dacia has significantly reduced the price for the Spring electric model. Previously, such a car could be bought for about 11,000 (after applying the Rabla Plus voucher). Currently, a Spring can be bought for around 12,000 euros through Rabla Plus, but the level of equipment is no longer as attractive to customers, who have started to turn to other models.
