GNR soldiers will reinforce patrolling on Portuguese roads, especially those with the highest traffic, from today until Monday to guarantee the safety of all drivers traveling to the lands on the occasion of All Saints’ Day.
According to the GNR, the objective of the patrolling and inspection operation aims to “combat crime and reduce situations that constitute risky behavior in the context of road accidents, ensuring the fluidity of traffic in addition to supporting road users”.
In a statement, the GNR points out that during the period of the operation a high intensity of road traffic is expected and recommends that motorists drive prudently.
In this sense, the guard calls on drivers to comply with traffic rules, especially with regard to overtaking maneuvers, changing direction, reversing direction, giving way and safe distance.
It also advises the correct use of seat belts and child restraint systems, as well as not using cell phones while driving and adapting the speed to the type of roads and traffic conditions.
The GNR also recommends “not drinking alcoholic beverages or consuming psychotropic substances before or while driving”.
