“Golden Globe” handed out its awards: hopes did not come true

Brady Corbet’s 215-minute colossus Brutalist won Best Drama, which also won Best Director, while leading man Adrien Brody won Best Actor in a Drama. This is the story of Holocaust survivor Hungarian architect Laszlo Toth, who is trying to rebuild his life in America and is in poverty until industrialist Van Buren enters into a contract with him to build the “building of the future.” As Brody says, the plot of the film is close to him personally: his mother, photographer Sylvia Plachy, fled after the events of 1956 to the USA, where she also tried to start everything from scratch. The film was shot on 70mm film and runs 3.5 hours with a 15-minute intermission.

According to the decision of the journalistic jury of the Golden Globe, Demi Moore in the film “Substance” became the best leading actress in the comedy genre. “I’ve been doing this profession for 45 years, but this is the first time I’ve received such an important prize,” the actress admitted. She won this award from Mika Madison (“Anora”), whom most critics predicted to win. Moore plays a fading movie star and former erotica queen who is fired from her TV show. The diva buys an underground elixir that “splits” her – young sex bomb Sue (Margaret Qualley) hatches from her spreading flesh in a pool of blood. The role required courage from the actress, which probably impressed the award judge.

Sebastian Stan (“The Other Man”) won Best Leading Actor in a Comedy/Musical for his performance as a freak actor who changed his appearance.

Our hopes for Yura Borisov’s victory in the category “Best Actor in a Supporting Role”, alas, did not come true: the award went to Kieran Culkin in the film “Real Pain”, this is his second Golden Globe in a row – last year he received this award for series “Descendants”.

Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres in the film “I’m Still Here” won the award for the leading female role from such serious rivals as Angelina Jolie, Pamela Anderson, Tilda Swinton and Nicole Kidman. The award for Best Supporting Actress predictably went to Zoe Saldana (“Emilia Perez”). This musical by Jacques Audiard also won in two main categories: “Best Comedy/Musical” and “Best Non-English Film.”

Peter Straughan’s “Conclave” was awarded best screenplay.

Unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes also award awards for series and television productions. In the Miniseries category, Jodie Foster (True Detective) won the Best Actress award. Best mini-series – autobiographical “Fawn”. The action series “Shogun” won several awards at once: the prize for best actor – Hiroyuki Sanada, for the female role – Anna Sawai, this series was also recognized as the best. Jeremy Allen White (“Bear”) won the award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. Colin Farrell (“Penguin”) was also among the winners.
