Jacques Audiard’s musical-thriller “Emilia Pérez,” which tells the story of a Mexican drug lord who changes sex, won the Golden Globe for best foreign language film at the 82nd Academy Awards in Hollywood today.
The French director’s film, which won the jury prize at the Cannes festival, beat Brazil’s Walter Sales’ I’m Still Here and Iran’s Mohammad Rasoulov’s The Seed of the Sacred Fig.

Playing the powerful activist of the anti-dictatorship movement in Brazil, Fernanda Torres beat out Angelina Jolie (“Maria”) and Nicole Kidman (“Babygirl”).
