Good news about F1 TV in the Netherlands despite Viaplay’s ‘exclusive’ rights

Next year you will no longer see Formula 1 summaries on NOS and Ziggo Sport. This is because Viaplay claims the ‘exclusive’ rights to the F1 images. But it is not really exclusive, as it now appears. Because as a Dutch person you can also continue to subscribe to F1 TV Pro, Formula 1’s own streaming service, in 2025.

Viaplay announced that it will have the ‘exclusive’ broadcasting rights of Formula 1 in the Netherlands from next year. The result is that NOS and Ziggo Sport are no longer allowed to broadcast Formula 1 summaries. But the question is whether Viaplay’s deal also has consequences for Dutch access to F1 TV, Formula 1’s own streaming service. That appears not to be the case. Next year, F1 TV will remain available in our country.

F1 TV Pro in the Netherlands

Formula One Management (FOM) has to GPBlog confirmed that it will also be possible to subscribe to F1 TV Pro in the Netherlands in 2025. Dutch subscribers can watch all broadcasts of every race weekend on F1 TV, including all studio programs. Dutch Viaplay subscribers will also continue to have free access to F1 TV.

This situation differs from that in Germany and France, where Formula 1 fans can only watch via the rights holders Sky and Canal+. Germans and French can no longer subscribe to F1 TV. But Viaplay has not been able to achieve that with the FOM in the Netherlands.

Subscriptions

A subscription to F1 TV Pro currently costs 11.90 euros per month in the Netherlands, but that amount could increase next year. You now pay 17.99 euros per month for a subscription to Viaplay, but a new price increase cannot be ruled out. Viaplay broadcasts even more live sports, such as the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga and darts.

Earlier this month, Viaplay temporarily offered an annual subscription, for which you paid the equivalent of 13.79 euros per month, a significant discount compared to the monthly subscription. But this annual offer is no longer available.
