The fifth generation of Toyota Suprathe A90, hit the market in 2019, surfing the image wave of a certain orange and vinyl unit. Developed in collaboration with BMW, which needed a partner to assume the financing of the current BMW Z4, the Japanese sports car is preparing to put a worthy end to its career in 2025.
For this, Toyota has created two exclusive versions. The first is the Toyota GR Supra A90 Final Editioninspired by competition versions in disciplines such as drifting or endurance racing, with the Toyota GR Supra GT4. As for the second, it is the Toyota GR Supra Lightweight EVOa lighter and more powerful version of the Supra.
Toyota GR Supra GT4 with license plate and its Touring version
When seeing the positioning of the two models that commemorate the end of production of the Toyota GR Supra, it is impossible not to think of the Porsche 911 GT3. The A90 Final Edition would be like a street Supra GT4, a kind of RS, while the Lightweight Evo would be the equivalent of a GT3 Touring, saving the distance, of course.
He Toyota GR Supra A90 Final Edition maintains the 3-liter inline six-cylinder of BMW origin associated with a manual gearbox, but its power has been increased from 340 to 435 hpwith engine torque that has also increased from 500 to 570 Nm. Quite a leap forward. In addition, the maximum speed has been increased by 20 km/h to a maximum of 270 km/h.
The brand claims that its engineers have redesigned the intake air path and adapted the catalyst to reduce pressure losses. In addition, the car’s agility will be even better, if possible, thanks to recalibrated steering and KW threaded body shock absorbers. Manually adjustable, they offer 16 levels of extension and 12 compression, like those used by the Supra GT4 competition.
Some Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, 10 mm wider than the standard version, on new light alloy wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear, and which reveal perforated and ventilated Brembo brake discs with high-friction pads , complete the section on the car’s dynamic modifications.
From an aesthetic point of view, this version incorporates a front spoiler, fins in the corners of the bumper and a carbon fiber central front fin. Behind, the spoiler with gooseneck supports is made of carbon fiber and is directly inspired by the GR Supra GT4. Additionally, a new carbon fiber hood duct features a removable inner element for increased cooling in track use when removed.
On board, the upholstery of the pilot’s trunk is red, while that of the co-pilot is black. Behind the buckets, the upper chassis reinforcement bars make it clear that this is a car developed for circuit runs.
Finally, it should be noted that it comes with a standard titanium Akrapovič exhaust, which promises a very suggestive sound. This will be a limited edition with a run of only 300 units, all of them sporting a matte black livery. Of course, they can only be purchased in Europe and Japan.
For his part, the Toyota GR Supra Lightweight Evo It is committed to a weight reduction, the value of which has not been communicated by the manufacturer, equipped with the same 435 HP engine and manual transmission. However, Toyota specifies that the car benefits from active control of the rear differential and specific engine mapping. In the tuning of the car they have, for example, modified the camber angle.
The rear of the Toyota Supra GR Lightweight Evo will be more discreet than that of the GR Supra A90 Final Edition, since the purpose of this version is not the same. In fact, it has a discreet ducktail spoiler. The Toyota GR Supra Lightwreight Evo rides on 19-inch tires front and rear. Inside, black upholstery is highlighted with red stitching to match the body color.
The updated Toyota GR Supra Lightweight Evo and Toyota GR Supra A90 Final Edition will be available to order at Europe from January 2025, putting an end, for the moment, to a story that began in 1979, with a derivative of the Toyota Celica.
