Google has been under surveillance by the EU for some time now because it does not comply with all the organization’s rules. The same applies to Bluesky, as was announced last night. Both companies are taking action.
Google announced today that it is making more changes to how search results are displayed in countries within the European Union. In countries such as Belgium, Estonia and Germany it introduces blue links.
Speaking of blue: Bluesky responded today, quite quickly, to last night’s reporting. The EU stated that the company is not adhering to the rules due to the lack of a European office. It wants to change that, so it is entering into a conversation with the European Union.
Google wants to comply with legislation with blue links
Google must give competition more room in the EU and is testing now a new method to comply with that. Anyone searching for hotels in Belgium, Estonia and Germany will see the traditional blue links that lead to websites.
For example, the results in the Netherlands immediately show hotels, where you can book at the touch of a button. A map also shows where the hotel is located at the destination. By weakening this approach, the EU wants the search engine to be less biased.
Google is also coming up with other proposals to keep the European Union happy. For example, it will release the link with Google Flights when users search for flights and send users to other comparison sites more quickly.
Bluesky in discussions with the European Union
After the European Union announced last night that X-alternative Bluesky does not comply with European rules, the company quickly responded. Bloomberg reports that the company behind the platform wants to talk to the European Commission to find a solution.
According to a spokesperson, the company is busy with its lawyers to come up with a proposal that it can present to the EU.
Bluesky has been on the rise since the American elections. The platform added an average of one million users per day last week and now has more than 20 million active users.
