Google can deal with one of the most popular ad blockers –

The tech giant can essentially kill the popular extension at any moment.

Google does its best to prevent the use of ad blockers. For this reason, the company recently started experimenting with a new ad format on YouTube, and now you can also block the ad blocker used for one of the most popular Chrome browsers.

A new message appeared on Google’s add-on support page a few days ago, informing users of the ad blocker uBlock Origin about the depressing news.

As it turned out, the program had already been removed from the Chrome Web store’s list of recommended extensions, but if someone now looking for canceryou will find the following note next to it:

“Support for this extension may be deprecated soon because it does not follow best practices for Chrome extensions.”

From this, we can conclude that Chrome’s online store can essentially get rid of the uBlock Origin ad blocker at any moment. The main reason for this is the phasing out of the Manifest V2 plugin platform, which will soon be replaced by Manifest V3, which imposes new requirements on plugins.

The full transition to Manifest V3 is expected to happen in early 2025, but it is unclear whether uBlock Origin will remain operational until then. Other browsers – including Firefox, Brave and Vivaldi – still support Manifest V2, so the ad blocker will still work for them. Those who stick with Chrome will probably have to look for other, less efficient alternatives in the near future.
