Google: Ending Support for Android Lollipop After a Decade

Many users about a decade ago (2nd 2014) loved it Android version Lollipop (5.0), as in this OS we saw several new features and it quickly became the favorite OS version for many Android users. However, after a decade, Google has announced that it is saying goodbye to official support for Lollipop.

Bye bye Lollipop!

A tough decision for the most romantic, but absolutely reasonable, as long as we consider that today we live in a constantly changing world of technology and we must evolve and not be left behind. Currently less than 1% of active Android devices are still running Lollipop and so Google will no longer provide updates for Google Play Services to these devices. It is important to understand the difference between Google Play Services updates and security updates. Play Services updates bring new features, security patches to the Play Store, and compatibility with the latest apps. Without these updates, Lollipop devices may experience problems running some newer apps in the future. Security updates for Lollipop had already stopped in March 2018.

While your Lollipop device will still work, it may not be as useful anymore, and the worry caused by a lack of security updates is huge. Many apps, especially banking and social media apps, increasingly require newer versions of Android, often Android 10 or later.

So what does this mean for people still using Lollipop? There is definitely an emotional attachment for many as these devices hold a special place in Android history. However, from a practical standpoint, the lack of updates raises concerns about security and how well your device works. Upgrading to a newer Android version may be the best option to ensure a safe and smooth user experience.
