For some Chrome users, Google search results suddenly look different. The familiar blue links have suddenly turned orange. The company is experimenting with a new color scheme for the search results.
The new color of the links will be visible to some people using Chrome’s dark mode on their Android device, iPhone, or computer. In both the Google app and the Chrome browser, the links appear in a warm, orange-brown shade. It seems to be an experiment by the search giant, that on the forums from Google has been reported by users.
Better readable in the dark?
It is not the first time that Google has experimented with the appearance of its services. In recent years, Android got a fresh makeover with ‘Material You’, a design system where apps automatically adapt to the colors of your background image.
However, these orange links appear to be separate from those adjustments. They appear namely also among people who don’t use personalized themes. Some users speculate on Reddit that Google wants to improve readability in the dark with this warmer color. You can see one of the shared screenshots at the bottom of this article.
Change is not possible yet
Those who want to return to the classic blue links currently have few options. Logging out or switching to light mode might help, but that didn’t work for everyone.
Google has not yet said anything about the new test. It remains to be seen whether the orange links will eventually become available to everyone and whether they will only appear if you have dark mode enabled.
