Google is adding more security features to Android smartphones

Google has reportedly started pushing a new feature update for some Android smartphones, adding anti-theft features such as anti-theft lock, offline device lock and remote lock. The latter is not exactly new and many Android users already have it installed on their devices. However, anti-theft lock and offline device lock are brand new features announced in May that increase data security.

The theft detection lock function it’s the fanciest of them all and leverages the device’s artificial intelligence and sensors to detect common movements associated with theft. For example, if someone grabs the phone out of your hand and starts running. It can also detect movements related to a bicycle or a car. The phone will automatically lock and block all access to your apps and data.

On the other hand, the offline device lock locks your device when the thief tries to keep your phone disconnected for long periods of time.

As for the remote lock, it allows you to lock your phone remotely using just your phone number in case Find My Device is disabled or you can’t sign in to your Google account.

It’s not yet clear which phones Google is using the new features on, but you might want to check if you have the latest version of Google Play Services.
