It’s barely a few weeks since the release of Android 15 and there are already rumors about its successor. Google is unexpectedly on its own developer blog published a post announcing the release of the next major version of Android 16 already in the 2nd quarter of 2025. Thus, for the first time in more than ten years, the main version will be released outside the experienced interval before the 3rd quarter (August to October).
Google wants to accommodate spring flags
The blog post mentions working with partners to make the new version of Android available on as many devices as possible. Simply put, Google is trying to align the release of the final version of Android 16 with the dates when major companies launch their flagship models. Thanks to this, the new flagships could offer the latest Android with the latest features immediately after release instead of waiting for several months, as was the case until now.
Google is changing the established habits and will release the main version of Android 16 earlier, specifically in the 2nd quarter of 2025
Another novelty is the release of two versions of the SDK. The main release of Android 16 is planned for the second quarter of 2025. In addition, there will be a smaller version of the SDK, which was previously only available for Pixel phones, but will now reach other devices in the last quarter of 2025
What can we expect from Android 16?
The new Android 16 can potentially bring a number of changes in the area of quick settings, where there should be drastic changes in the design. The brightness slider is also rumored to be redesigned to correlate more closely with the currently redesigned volume settings menu in Android 15. Magazine Android Police they also talk about the ability to put any app in the floating bubble menu (until now it was only possible to have chat apps in this menu).
