Google changed its calendar this year by presenting its new range of smartphones in August. We were able to discover the Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, as well as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
This quartet is high-end, even premium for the Pro variants. Google has had a more affordable model marked “a” for several years. The latest representative is the Pixel 8a that the firm launched last May. If more or less serious rumors have mentioned the end of the Pixel a, a successor is already on the horizon. Google Pixel 9a: a new chapter for the series?
These images show a design radically different from what Google has been offering us for several years. The Pixel 9a would abandon the signature photo banner in force since the Pixel 6.
The current range has already brought an interesting overhaul by modernizing its photo block, without completely putting aside this singularity. The Pixel 9a would offer a much more classic and flat photo block. A development which should allow the smartphone to be placed completely flat on its back.
This difference would also help the more affordable Pixel 9 stand out from its predecessors. Like the Google Pxel 9, it should only have two photo modules: a wide-angle main sensor and an ultra-wide-angle. . Despite this difference, the Pixel 9a still manages to resemble a model from the Pixel 9 family from which it takes up the main design codes. For example, we find the flat frame, more in line with current trends.
What technical sheet for the Pixel 9?
The Google Pixel 9a would feature the new Tensor G4 chip, already available on other models in the series. The affordable model is expected to benefit from AI features and improvements in Google’s image processing. The chip would be accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, as well as a larger battery. As a reminder, the current Pixel 8a has a 4,492 mAh battery.
Finally, the Google Pixel 9a will do something the rest of the Pixel 9a lineup couldn’t do. It would arrive directly with Android 15, a version which should be officially available from October 15. The future device will benefit from seven years of updates, like its predecessor and the rest of the series.
When will it be released?
The Pixel 8a was announced on May 7, 2024 and a similar date is expected for the Pixel 9a in 2025. Google could present it during its I/O conference, usually held during the month of May.
No rumors have filtered out regarding the price of the Pixel 9a. The Google Pixel 8a cost 549 euros when it was released, or 40 euros more than the previous model. A 256 GB version also exists, at 609 euros. The room for maneuver will be reduced if Google wants to remain competitive and not be too close to the Pixel 9 (899 euros).
