Google knows how important the weather forecast is to users, especially in the context of climate change. The code from beta version 15.28.37.29 of Google’s Android app shows that the tech giant is developing three new weather widgets of different sizes. They promise to provide more weather details at a glance. All three are expected to be available on non-Pixel phones as well.
What the new weather widgets can do
Currently, Google only offers two weather widgets. One 4×2, which displays the current weather, and another 3×2, which shows the hourly forecast. The sizes of both can be changed according to preference. Unfortunately, the information becomes difficult to read when the user wants to do so.
The three new widget options would provide more weather data and easier-to-read content. It looks like the 2×2 square will include quick weather data. The 4×2 option would display the hourly forecast for the entire day and the 4×3 would come with a forecast for the next few days.
When will we have access to the new weather widgets
Although it will be a while before they become available to the public, the fact that they exist, in theory, in beta would be very good news. Google seems steadfast in their plan to provide comprehensive weather options for all Android phone users who want faster and more detailed ways to find out what the weather will be like.
Let’s not forget, however, that Google could always delay or even completely abandon the new widgets. They might as well develop others with even more useful weather information. A third possibility would be to refine the new ones and reveal them at a date they will announce later.
