The way Android handles the notifications of apps is one of its most notable features, which many believe is superior to Apple’s approach with iOS. However, there is always room for improvement, which is why Google is running various experiments to see if it can make its Android system even better. The latest experiment with Android 15 involves the Editing icons used for notifications.
After Google uploaded the source code for Android 15 on the Android Open Source Project last week, several flags emerged for an experiment that replaces the notification icon in the status barin the always-on display (AOD) and in the notification shade.
Here’s a gallery comparing how notifications currently appear in the status bar with how they would look if these alternative icons were used:
As you can see from the images, the usual notification icons provided by the app are they melt better with the rest of the icons of the status bar. Conversely, when an app’s main icon is used for a notification, it looks noticeably out of place. However, it’s also easier to tell at a glance which app sent the notification. Obviously none of these changes have arrived officially yet, but if they ever do, we will update you with a new article.
