Google Photos is getting a major feature, and this time it’ll focus on video editing

Google Photos is working on another new feature to offer users even more possibilities. This time, it’s about video editing.

Google isn’t holding back on the development of the most popular photo storage and organization app. Android Authority, as is their wont, dug into the code of the latest version of the app and spoiled the surprise for the internet giant by informing the world about what Google Photos will serve us in the near future!

Google Photos’ Built-in Photo Editor Gets New Options

If you store not only photos but also video materials in Google Photos, then the editor there is probably no stranger to you. It is through it that you can make basic changes to videos – from cropping them, through color correction, to all sorts of filters. However, after developing its photo editor, Google is also starting to devote more and more attention to video editing from their application – and one of the upcoming novelties will be speeding up and slowing down recordings directly from the application.

Android Authority reported that the feature coming to the Google Photos platform will give us the ability to modify the playback speed. We can choose from 1/4x, 1/2x, 1x, 2x and 4x. They can apply to the entire material or just a part of it. This will allow you to achieve an effect that you are probably familiar with from the spectacular videos that have been flooding social media in recent months – whether in the form of TikToks, Reels or other combinations.

Unfortunately, the sad news is that at the moment this option does not allow combining several film materials into one. Everything is limited to a single material – so it is difficult to talk about more advanced editing tools here. Who knows – maybe in the future the application will allow users to do a little more on the subject.
