Fresh details have leaked about the cameras of the Google Pixel 9 series, with the Pro models in particular getting a number of upgrades. The Pixel 9 Pro XL also appears to charge slightly faster than its predecessor.
‘Pixel 9 Pro (XL) cameras leaked’
We already know a lot about the upcoming Google Pixel 9 smartphones, but we hadn’t heard much about their cameras. That’s about to change. Android Authority published a list of all the specifications, which shows that the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL use the same 50-megapixel main camera as last year.
We do see improvements in the wide-angle lens. All three get a new 50-megapixel sensor. The regular Pixel 9 in particular is making significant progress. The Pixel 8 still used an outdated 12-megapixel lens. The selfie camera on this device retains its familiar resolution of 10.5 megapixels, but Google adds autofocus.
The Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL get a brand new selfie camera of no less than 50 megapixels. The telephoto lens, with which you can zoom in 5x, also has that resolution. However, the Pixel 8 Pro already had a telephoto camera of 48 megapixels. How big the improvements are in practice, we will have to wait and see.
Finally, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. In terms of cameras, it seems to be slightly worse than the original Pixel Fold. The main camera does have a higher resolution (64 vs 48 megapixels), but the wide-angle lens and both selfie cameras use a smaller sensor. This probably has to do with the housing. It is said to be thinner than last year, which means there is less space.
Whether this device will officially come to the Netherlands is doubtful. After all, the first Pixel Fold did not appear here.
Pixel 9 Pro XL charges slightly faster
Android Authority also shares information about the batteries of the new smartphones. The Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold have a capacity of around 4,560mAh, slightly more than last year’s Pixel 8. The Pixel 9 Pro XL has 4,942mAh on board. That’s almost the same as the Pixel 8 Pro. The more power-efficient Tensor G4 chip may provide longer battery life.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL is said to charge at 32.67 watts. That may be advertised as 35 watts. That would allow it to juice up the battery a little faster than its direct predecessor, the Pixel 8 Pro. That was stuck at 26.91 watts, but Google mentioned a value of 30 watts. For the other devices, the differences from last year are negligible.
