The app Pixel Camera her Google strikes a great balance between features and usability, providing all the options you need to achieve the perfect click.
The app even has an Astrophotography feature, allowing you to capture the night sky. Unlike Night Sight and Pro mode, however, there was no way to activate Astrophotography mode manually. This changes with the latest version of the Pixel Camera app.
The only way to enable Astrophotography on a Pixel phone right now is to place it on a stable surface, point the camera at the night sky, and switch to Night Sight in the camera app.
With the latest version of the Pixel Camera (v9.5.118), when you first go to Night Sight, a popup will appear indicating the introduction of manual astrophotography mode. After that, dive into the Night Sight quick settings and make sure the Astrophotography option is enabled.
In Night Sight mode, you will then see the Astrophotography icon, represented by a moon and a star, in the lower right. You also have manual control over the duration of the function, which can be up to four minutes. A longer time frame will allow your Pixel to take 16 photos with a 16-second exposure each and merge them into one for the best quality.
Place the phone on a stable surface, adjust the frame properly, and press the shutter button to start a 5-second timer. After that, the phone will start recording the night sky. You can’t adjust this timer, but it’s useful because you have enough time to position the phone properly after pressing the shutter. Depending on the Pixel model and exposure time, final image processing may take a while.
Google may push the latest version of the Pixel camera through the Play Store, which may take a while, or manually load the version by grabbing the APK from APKMirror. You need to download the 500MB APK package and then install it using the APKMirror app.
